About the ETA
What is the Sri Lanka Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)?
The Sri Lanka ETA is an electronic authorization that allows eligible travelers to enter Sri Lanka for tourism, business or transit. It is linked electronically to your passport, so there is no sticker or stamp to collect from an embassy before you travel.
Your ETA must be approved before you board your flight. On arrival, present the passport you used for your application and a copy of your ETA, printed or on your phone, to the immigration officer.
Types of ETA
Tourist ETA
Up to 30 daysFor sightseeing, holidays, visiting friends or relatives, medical treatment or short leisure trips.
Business ETA
Up to 30 daysFor business meetings, conferences, trade fairs, negotiations or short-term business activities.
Transit ETA
Up to 2 daysFor travelers passing through Sri Lanka on their way to another destination.
Eligibility
Who needs a Sri Lanka ETA?
- Almost all foreign nationals must hold an approved ETA before travelling to Sri Lanka, whatever the length of their stay.
- This includes nationalities eligible for a free tourist ETA: the fee is waived, but the application is still required.
- Children and infants need their own ETA, even when they travel on a parent’s passport.
Exemptions: Citizens of Singapore, the Maldives and Seychelles are currently exempt from the ETA requirement. Holders of diplomatic passports should check with the nearest Sri Lankan embassy.
